SHIKIBU

“No art or learning is to be pursued halfheartedly… and any art worth learning will certainly reward more or less generously the effort made to study it.”

Author Murasaki Shikibu was the writer of what is known to be the first modern novel, The Tale of Genji. She was born in Japan for over a thousand years ago. Her family had a lack of status but was known for its many poets. Shikibus mother had died so she was raised by her father who praised her for her intelligence and raised her the same way as a boy.

The Tale of Genji is called a Japanese Don Juan and is still to be considered a classic and a masterpiece. It tells the story of prince Genji who was the ideal man during this era; a painter, dancer and musician but most importantly, he was the perfect lover.

The Shikibu bag is the most female Bukvy item with room for lip-gloss, passport, pen, keys – it even contains a small mirror. It is also made for all of us who loves literature – it actually fits a mini paperback!
