Intro: The Maathai kit
Bukvy was founded with inspiration from the Swedish comic character Skalman, a turtle. Skalman is always ready for any adventure. His shell is equipped with everything he and his friends might need to complete their missions and travels. That’s exactly how I want to feel in my every day life!
- Do you need a pen? Here you are!
- My keys? In their compartment, fastened to the keychain of course!
- A spontaneous dinner invitation? I’ll be there!
An everyday bag which supports life and enables days filled with activities and challenges, is a true everyday hero.
Our clever accessory-kit Maathai is named after Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan Nobel Prize winner and environmental activist. Maathai founded The Green belt movement, planting trees to support the nature in Africa. The trees are strengthening societies to focus on a democratic space for women and girls and promotes sustainable living conditions.
”What a friend we have in a tree, the tree is a symbol of hope, self-improvement and what the human can do for herself”
Wangari Maathai
Maathai brought people together to do better. She worked against both corruption and deforestation. In 2014 she received the Nobel Peace Prize for her work against poverty and pollution. She passed away in 2011, but we can still support her work and her organisation HERE.
Our product kit Maathai has been with us since 2016, but was put on hold when we needed to focus on the big bags and the collaboration with our new studio outside Porto in Portugal. Now Maathai is finally back and can be worn as is, or fits perfectly together with Bukvy’s other bags and accessories. There will also be a mobile phone case available soon, to attach to the Maathai kit. How Maathai will develop going forward is only limited by imagination.
